Sustainability and Emissions

Light rapid transit schemes - particularly light rail systems - have long been regarded as a particularly sustainable form of public transport.

In addition to generating significant modal shift away from private cars they have significant long-term environmental advantages in terms of its contribution to:

  • - tackling climate change
  • - the impact on air quality and
  • - benefits in terms of energy supply.
