Message from LRTF President

Light rail in the UK is being recognised at last for what it can offer a better quality of life in cleaner cities, and regeneration of poor areas badly affected by industrial change, leading to new jobs at a time when they are needed most.

The LRTF is a pan-industry organisation that works hard to influence government decision-making, and I am delighted that the new government has opened its doors to listen to our views on how to increase investment this important transport mode.

We represent the entire private sector manufacturers, suppliers and operators, and it is crucial that we speak with one voice. While successes have been scored in a number of UK cities particularly with large-scale investment in Blackpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham and Birmingham in recent months - there is so much work to be done to create new opportunities for us all.

We meet regularly, and our members have access to a massive knowledge base that is freely shared between ourselves and our colleagues in the public sector, including UK Tram, the Passenger Transport Executives, the Confederation of Public Transport, and other bodies. Together, we can meet everyone's needs.

Knowing that we are all busy people, anything we do must punch hard and not duplicate the efforts of others. If you are not already a member, please join us and enjoy the journey!

Very best wishes,

COLIN WALTON, President, Light Rapid Transit Forum
