LRTF welcomes Cross River Tram consultation

The Light Rapid Transit Forum has welcomed the Transport for London (TfL) consultation on route options for the Cross River Tram, launched on 22 November. The scheme envisages a tram running from Euston to Waterloo, with Camden Town, Kings Cross, Brixton and Peckham.

LRT Forum Chairman Mary Bonar said: "TfL is to be applauded for proposing an innovative scheme which will help to reduce traffic pollution and congestion in this busy area of London and is intended to be designed to improve the street scene. "The scheme demonstrates how light rail can integrate well with existing public transport - in this case, 11 underground lines and four mainline rail stations. Also, by improving transport links it will help regeneration projects in Kings Cross, Brixton, Elephant and Castle and the Aylesbury Estate in Southwark". The full consultation document can be downloaded from the TfL website here. 24 November 2006.
