Membership of the Light Rapid Transit Forum (LRTF) provides the opportunity to network at the highest possible level in the industry.
The expansion of membership of the LRTF is taking place in response to a specific request from Government, led by Secretary of State for Transport Norman Baker, for there to be a single voice representing industry interests.
The LRTF specifically lobbies on behalf of the private sector in this regard. It is also one of four stakeholders in UKTram, with pteg (Passenger Transport Executives), Confederation of Passenger Transport, and London Transport.
The Department for Transport has invited us to engage in a new, more positive dialogue, and we responded at the end of December 2010 with a new
document setting out the benefits of LRT expansion.
The LRTF's very active working President is Colin Walton, Chairman of Bombardier, the UK¹s only volume train builder, who is a regular attendee and policy driver at our meetings.
Benefits of LRTF membership include:
- The private fellowship of the major private sector decision makers, comprising system operators, manufacturers and suppliers of products and services, ranging from infrastructure suppliers to consultancy and parliamentary services. Members can attend our meetings, participate in decision making, and aspire to join the Steering Group.
- A chance to participate in a forthcoming workshop with the DfT.- Work with the LRTF on its presentations to the 2011 Party Political Conference.
- We also has a working website which promotes the business of its membership.
